Welcome to the Sunset Quartet! We are a group of musicians, performers, and friends who love to play music together. See below for individual info on us. We hope to see you at your next event!

Karina - 1st Violin
 

Karina has been playing the violin for six years. Her passion for music began when she received violin lessons as her tenth birthday present. Since then she has been playing in orchestras, symphonies, concerto competitions, and chamber music groups all over California. 

 

Karina is a member of the Community Youth Orchestra of Southern California and performed as Principal Second. She also played in the California Solisti, an ensemble of professional music teachers, accompanying 27 soloists in the summer of 2019. Her chamber music experience includes being coached in a quartet at the St. Margaret's Summer Music Festival and attending chamber music reading sessions during the summer.

Carina - 2nd Violin

Carina started playing the violin when she was 10 years old. She has been playing for five years with a private teacher. Carina takes part in her school's orchestra, and plays in the pit orchestral for many musical performances. She is also a member of the Community Youth Orchestra of Southern California, playing in the advanced full orchestra as first violin. She has also attended a summer music festival at St. Margaret's Episcopal School a few years back.

 

Carina says, "I just really enjoy playing this instrument because of the clear and beautiful sound the violin can make. Its ability to portray all sorts of emotions amazes me all the time."

Madeline - Viola

Madeline has been involved in music since birth, as her mom is a professional flute choir director and teacher. Madeline enjoys various instruments and is currently playing viola in the Sunset Quartet. She is also leading a musical at her school and enjoys being a part of various choirs. 

Madeline aspires to the position of chief musical director at Disneyland in the future and plans to study script writing in college with the eventual hopes of being able to write music for movies.

Quintessa - Cello

Quintessa has loved music ever since she was born. She has been in a choir for eight years and has studied the cello for seven years. 

With her choir, the Southern California Children’s Chorus, she has had multiple opportunities including singing at Carnegie Hall in 2016, touring to Iceland in 2018, and recording at Capital Records in Hollywood. She has performed in staged events such as the opera Turandot, Leonard Bernstein’s Mass, and Ravel’s L'Enfant et les Sortilèges,and has been in a music video with Alex Boyé.

As a cellist, Quintessa takes private lessons every week. She has played in her church’s orchestra for four years and has also played for a CHOC fundraiser and in other recitals. Quintessa has performed the Andante Espressivo from Mendelssohn’s Piano Trio in c minor and is currently working on Bach’s Unaccompanied Cello Suite No. 1 and Gabriel Fauré’s Sicilienne.
